Imagine that you have everything: profitable project, great team, new challenges every day. But one morning you wake up and don’t want to go work. Don’t feel any desire to go there, talk to people, solve problems, do things.

They call it “motivation gap”. They’ll tell you to take a break, relax, change focus or something. And it’ll return, you’ll be just fine. Or will you?

Guess again.

There is no such thing, as motivation. If you want something and know how to get it, you get up and go. You can’t sleep, burning with energy inside you, telling yourself to go and do whatever needs to be done. When doing something that is NOT bringing you closer, you can physically feel time wasted.

And that is it! Motivation is all about knowing what to do to get what you want.

You get “lack of motivation” in 3 cases:

  1. You don’t really need whatever you want
  2. It is too difficult (for you) to get
  3. You don’t know how to get it

Think about it. 99% of all problems with motivation are about 3rd variant. Every time I feel like doing nothing, I really just don’t know what to do.

I drive to meet another “key” partner, subconsciously feeling that it’s not bringing me any closer to my goal. I go to office and don’t know what I should do today to move project forward. I try different promotional channels and don’t know which of them will work out.

That is what kills motivation. Knowing is the key! Not knowing is… well, nothing 🙂 Every time you “lose motivation” you just lose the way and don’t know what to do next.

Find it!

Don’t try to motivate yourself through youtube videos or books. Even though they can make you feel better for a minute, it’s not a solution. Find the way to your goal and go for it.
